About Me

In October, 2020, I retired as a partner from the Washington, D.C. and New York offices of the international law firm Clifford Chance, after leading its international arbitration practice in Latin America for more than 8 years.

I am currently available to act as arbitrator, mediator, and consultant in commercial and investment disputes.

More than two decades of experience

I have more than 20 years of experience in international dispute resolution, including:

Participation on behalf of private and state parties in over 100 international disputes, including more than 40 commercial arbitrations (ad hoc, ICC, ICDR, LCIA, UNCITRAL and CIAC) and over 30 arbitrations initiated under the protection of bilateral investment treaties (ICSID and UNCITRAL).
Acting as a co-arbitrator and president of international arbitration tribunals (ICC and UNCITRAL); and
Participation in international mediations (ICC and ad hoc).

I have participated in

Cases related to construction and infrastructure projects (nuclear power plants, thermoelectric plants, hydroelectric plants, geothermal plants, solar and wind plants, bridges, roads, and housing developments), various types of concessions (mining, hydrocarbons, public utilities, and airports), contracts in the oil and gas industry (ship/take/deliver or pay, Joint Operating Agreements, and construction of refineries and pipelines) as well as corporate contracts (shareholder agreements, M&As, representation and distribution contracts).

Arbitrations and/ or provided advice regarding disputes governed by the laws of most of the countries in Latin America and in multiple cases governed by the laws of common law jurisdictions, including English law and the laws of the states of New York, Florida, and Washington. I also have extensive experience in disputes under international treaties, including bilateral investment treaties.

I have been involved in disputes related to almost all Latin American countries as well as in multiple disputes related to jurisdictions in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

Academic training

I have been educated and have worked extensively in both the civil law and common law systems. I graduated as a lawyer with Honors from the University of Buenos Aires (1994) and I hold a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Harvard University (1998). I am licensed to practice law in Argentina, the State of New York and in the District of Columbia.

I am a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English. I also read and understand French and Portuguese.

Academic background

My interest in international arbitration translated into an intense academic activity. I have delivered over 150 conferences, courses, and seminars in different parts of America, Africa, Europe, and Asia and I have actively participated in graduate and post-graduate programs as a guest professor and lecturer.
